Shamanism

Shamanism is a term that is being used a lot today. As people see and feel the benefits from this practice, this way of life, there are more and more schools and practitioners offering ways to learn and experience shamanism and it can be confusing to know where to look for help or how to get involved.

Shamanism is a spiritual practice rooted in nature, the cycles and rhythms of the natural world. There is a strong connection with the subtle energy, the spirit within everything and a deep understanding the sacredness of all life. Shamans enter altered states of consciousness to access wisdom and guidance on behalf of their clients for healing purposes. Health issues are seen in terms of loss of power or energy and the shaman works through ceremony and ritual to return lost energy and remove energies which are causing imbalances.

Although the shamanism being taught and practised now in the ‘western world’ maybe be different to teachings from the indigenous peoples around the world, this fundamental way of being still holds the ethos of the ancient traditions and methods and has great value - more especially with our modern ways of living which can cause us to be disconnected from the natural world.

In my experience shamanic healing is one of the most profound healing modalities. The responsibility for your good health remains with the you - you do not go for a shamanic healing session to ‘be fixed’. Instead you may experience a shift in your energy, a release if you like, which in turn gives you some space, which was perhaps lacking, to change your behaviour, your way of living. This allows a change in your physical body and your energy and power is restored.

If you are interested in having a shamanic healing, speak to the practitioners you are drawn to and ensure a connection with them, find someone that you trust and that you feel will support you as you step along this path to wholeness.
